The Beam

To be forgiven at all

Is to be forgiven much.

Against Christ's lily purity

Is every mote a beam--

A beam He bore,

Although the Father turned aside.

But when the veil was torn in two,

The blindfold beam became a door;

My thorn of Sin He crucified

To draw me to His Throne inside.

The bar is gone, and Light He beams,

And now His love no shadow hides--

If still between my Lord and me

One beam--an altar--still abides.
