I loved you in your perfect health

When duty filled your day--

I love you now in shifting sands

Where no one knows the way.

I loved you as a little girl

Who brought you every care--

I love you now as woman grown

With aches you cannot bear.

I loved you in the quiet sun

On Sabbath afternoons--

I'll love you in the midnight hours

When shadows fill the room.

I'll love you when to bed confined

You rest your feeble frame --

I'll stroke your hair and kiss your face

When you forget my name.

I know this must have been a hard poem to write, I love you. Emma

Hi, Emma! I love you, too! Thank you so much for understanding! Yes, it was hard but also healing! It amazes me how it came true when she died, except that she never forgot my name!
